CD stud welding machine (short for Capacitor Discharge stud welding machine) is a specialized welding tool used to quickly and securely attach metal studs to a metal workpiece using a high-voltage electrical discharge. This type of welding is common in applications requiring precision, speed, and minimal surface marking.
🔧 How CD Stud Welding Works:
Capacitor Charge: The machine charges capacitors to a set voltage.
Stud Placement: A stud (with a special tip) is positioned against the workpiece using a welding gun.
Discharge: The stored energy is rapidly discharged through the tip of the stud.
Fusion: The arc melts the tip of the stud and the workpiece surface.
Plunge & Hold: The spring-loaded stud is forced into the molten pool, fusing it.
Cool: It solidifies almost instantly (typically <3 ms).
✅ Advantages:
Very fast weld cycle (1–3 milliseconds).
Minimal heat distortion.
No backside marking (great for thin materials).
Excellent for cosmetic or visible surfaces.
Can weld on materials as thin as 0.5 mm.
🧰 Typical Applications:
Sheet metal fabrication
Electronics enclosures
Automotive parts
HVAC systems
Kitchen appliances
Signage and displays
